If weather is an important factor for your trip to Mexico City, use this chart to help with planning. Travellers hoping to avoid the cold should look outside of January, when temperatures are typically at their lowest (around 13.0 C).
Toluca, also known as Toluca de Lerdo, is the capital of Mexico State. Though the city is known today for its developed industrial sector, it was an important cultural centre during the pre-Columbian times. Situated at an altitude of 9,000 feet (2745 m), it is surrounded by picturesque settings that include the Nevado de Toluca- one of the highest volcano in the country and La Marquesa Park nestled in the beauty of the mountains.
Also known as La Bella (the beautiful) the central area of the city showcases exquisite colonial architecture belonging to the 19th century. This culturally rich city is an attractive destination to explore museums, art galleries, shopping plazas and arcades. The Plaza de los Mártires in the centre of the town has the Palacio de Gobierno and the excellent cathedral built in the Neo-Classical architectural style.
After Mexico City, Toluca comes second in the number of museums present in the city. The Museum of Fine Arts (Museo de Bellas Artes), Museum of Natural Sciences (Museo de Ciencias Naturales), and Numismatics Museum (Museo de la Numismática) are among the long list of interesting museums that are worth visiting.
Toluca is also known for its cuisine that includes its famous dish “chorizo”, a local sausage and popular dishes such as “tacos de plaza” and “tacos de carnitas” made from pork.
With one of the finest taxi system that has nearly 5,000 taxis, it is easy to just wave at a taxi on any major street and reach your destination with ease. The city also has a huge bus terminal that is well connected to any place in the north, south or west.
Toluca has an international airport (TIA) that serves major airlines and many private jets. The airport is 32 miles (52 km) from Mexico City and with a number of authorised taxis and shuttle services operating from the airport it is easy and convenient to reach major areas in the city and nearby places.
